The IRUS R5 service aims to provide you with standardised statistics and flexible tools to help you report, visualise, search, manage and embed institutional repository usage statistics.
The initial set of reports and tools offer a core set of features to surface the data in a range of formats for re-use. Features to support analysis and presentation of the data such as quick views and further visualisations will be added as the service develops. Search functionality will also be added as a later development.
Detailed and tailored reporting with Master Reports
All the data in the reports, views and visualisations in the IRUS web portal, as well as the API and widget, are based on two COUNTER "master reports": Platform Master Report (PR) and Item Master Report (IR). These are large, granular and flexible reports that can be filtered to meet a variety of use cases.
In the R5 service, "platform" means "repository". An "Item" is any item in the repository such as an article, thesis, image, or book section.
IRUS provides flexible reporting tools that enable you to select what data you want to view. These are ideal for generating data to answer a wide range of specific questions.
IRUS's Custom Master Reports are based on the COUNTER standard and enhanced with additional information such as Item_Type and country, and added display functionality. The statistics are still COUNTER conformant.
- Custom Platform Master Report: A flexible reporting tool that shows total usage at a platform (repository) level for each of your chosen Metric_Types. Allows you to select up to 5, or all, institutions and their associated repositories, and breakdown usage by Item_Type.
- Custom Item Master Report: A flexible reporting tool that provides statistics at the item level for each of your chosen Metric_Types. Allows you to select up to 5 institutions and their associated repositories, and include Item_Type information.
Data is generally available back to January 2020, but this depends on when a repository joined IRUS.
Quick and simple reporting
In addition to the more complex reporting tools, IRUS also offers quick reports and visualisations to meet the most common use cases.
Visualisations offer a quick and easy way to view and present usage data. The initial service includes a "Top Items" data visualisation that can be used to quickly identify most used items in your repository and see how this compares with other repositories.
Combined R4/R5 Platform Report: Provides the full range of available data for a repository and gives long-term reporting value. This shows data for the whole time that a repository has had data in IRUS. While we cannot provide full integration, due to the differences between COUNTER R4 and R5, this report displays "Downloads" (R4) from 2012 to 2019 (where these were available in the previous service) and "Total_Item_Requests" (the closest equivalent to downloads in R5) from January 2020 onwards. Allows you to select up to 5, or all, institutions and their associated repositories, so assisting in benchmarking.
Individual Item Report: Provides detailed statistics of an individual item with options to view monthly or daily data, and to drill down by country. Altmetric/dimensions badges are also included in the results where possible. The report can be accessed by entering a DOI or OAI ID, or directly from the results in the Custom Item Master Report.
IRUS statistics by ORCID: Allows you to search for an ORCID to see usage of all items by a particular author. Where a research output, which contains author ORCID information, is deposited in two repositories it will appear as two separate entries in this report; depending on the metadata from the respective repositories, the title and author lists may not be identical.
